Oakland County
Oakland County, like many of the counties that surround it, started out as a part of Wayne County when the Territory of Michigan was first formed on 01 Nov 1815 by Lewis Cass, the Territorial Governor. On 15 Jan 1818, Macomb County (including modern day Oakland County) was formed. Oakland County became a separate county on 28 Mar 1820.
In 1822, what is now Livingston, Shiawassee and Washtenaw, counties were formed, leaving what is now Oakland County.
The first town in Oakland County was Pontiac, which is still the County Seat.
The largest city is Troy.
Starting out as a sparsely populated, rural area, Oakland County is, as of the 2010 Census, the 2nd most populated county in Michigan after Wayne County.
