Quay County Information


Men, women, and children stand on sidewalks near hitched wagons and buggies. One and two story buildings with false fronts and flat roofs line the dirt street. Prominent signs read: "Whitmore The Old Reliable Shoe Maker" "Feed and Groceries" "Rooms" "L. O. O. M. Club Rooms" "Hofford Groceries". Wooden electrical poles with wires strung between stands near the street. Shows a cylindrical water tower with a conical top.

Formed in 1903 from part of Guadalupe County
The County was named for Pennsylvania senator Matthew Quay, who supported New Mexican statehood.

The county seat is Tucumcari
