County Seat: Auburn
Year Organized: 1799
Square Miles: 693

Cayuga County was formed in 1799 by the splitting of Onondaga County. The county at that time was much larger than the present Cayuga County, including the present Seneca and Tompkins Counties.
The County was named after the Cayuga Indians, one of the tribes in the Iroquois Confederation.
Cayuga County is located in the west central part of the state, in the Finger Lakes region.
