Moore County, North Carolina
Nestled in the Sandhills - a region bordering both coastal and peidmont planes. Inhabited by the Siouan family of Indians first, followed by migrations primarily of Ulster Scott, English and Germans following the "Great Wagon Road" from Pennsylvania or the Caper Fear River Valley who found the north/western Deep River area ideal and then in the later half of the 18th century the Highland Scots arrived settling in the south eastern areas of the county. Shortly after the end of the American Revolution, Moore county was officially formed in 1784 from Cumberland County. It was named for Alfred Moore, an officer in the American Revolutionary War and associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States with the northern parts of the county quickly thriving - introducing industries such as a gun factory and a carriage factory. In 1907 parts of Moore County and Chatham County were combined to form Lee County.
