Morehouse Parish
Morehouse Parish was formed in 1844. It is named after Abraham Morehouse, who was originally from Montgomery County New York, claimed to be a Colonel in the New York Militia.  Morehouse Parish was originally part of Ouachita country which was roughly defined by the area between the Red and Mississippi rivers north to the Missouri River.
The parish seat is Bastrop, the namesake of the Baron de Bastrop, who received a Spanish land grant in the area.
