History of Floyd County
The fortieth of the counties of Kentucky in order
of formation, was established by an act of the
General Assembly of Kentucky in 1799 out of
Fleming, Montgomery and Mason counties.
County History
The county was named in honor of Col. John Floyd.
The county seat is Prestonburg
