Allen Parish

Allen Parish is in southwestern Louisiana, southwest of Alexandria.
Founded in 1912, from Calcasieu
The parish seat is Oberlin and as of 2000, the population was 25,440.
On June 12, 1912 almost 100 years after the Louisiana Purchase, three parishes were carved out of the Calcasieu:  Jefferson Davis, Allen and Beauregard. The rest remained the Calcasieu. The Northeastern portion that became Allen, was named after the Confederate States Army general and former governor of Louisiana, Henry Watkins Allen.
