Clark County Information

Clark(e) County was the first county of Washington and was named after William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. It was created on August 20, 1845 as Vancouver District, named for its town.
It included all the land north of the Columbia River, west of the Rocky Mountains, and south of Alaska.

The name spelling was corrected in 1925 to CLARK.

The county seat is at Vancouver, which is also its largest city.

Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens and Mount Adams are all visible from Clark County
The 1948 Memorial Day flood from the Columbia River completely destroyed Vanport, Oregon.
