Welcome to Florida Genealogy Trails!
Our goal is to help you track your ancestors through time by
transcribing genealogical and historical data and placing it online for the free use of all researchers.

This County Website is available for Adoption.

WANT TO HELP?
We're looking for folks who share our dedication to putting data online
and are interested in helping this project be successful. If you are interested in joining our group, view our Volunteer Page for further information.
[A desire to transcribe data and knowledge of how to make a basic webpage
is required.]
We'll be happy to help your families' obituaries, news items and other
historical data find a home here at Florida Genealogy Trails, where
it will remain free for all to view.

WE REGRET THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO DO PERSONAL RESEARCH FOR YOU.
ALL DATA IS ADDED TO THE SITE AS WE COME ACROSS IT, SO KEEP CHECKING BACK!

Brevard County
Founded: March 14, 1844
Named for Theodorus W. Brevard
County Seat:
Titusville

Brevard Co. Courthouse,
c.1918
The official county seat has been located in
Titusville since 1894.
In the 1800s, the Hernandez-Capron Trail
passed through the county.
"Mosquito County" was formed while the
state was still a territory, and on some maps was absorbed into an
unofficial "Leigh Read" county between 1839 and 1845. This eventually
became three new counties one of which was "Saint Lucia County" on March
14, 1844 - it was renamed Brevard County in 1855 after Theodore Washington
Brevard, an early settler who served as Florida Comptroller from 1854 to
1860. In 1905 St. Lucie County was created from the southern third of the
county. Brevard's current boundary has been the same since 1907.
Influenced by the presence of the John F. Kennedy Space Center, Brevard
County is also known as the Space Coast.
