Entry of judgment has been deferred in your case until the date set by the Court below to give you the opportunity to complete an approved Virginia 8-Hour Driver Improvement Program & pay your court costs in full. If you return to the Court the Original Certificate of Completion from an approved in-person or on-line program and satisfy your costs on or before 5:00 p.m. on the return date, your case will be reduced or dismissed. IF YOU FAIL TO DO EITHER OR BOTH OF THE ABOVE, YOU WILL BE FOUND GUILTY OF YOUR ORIGINAL CHARGE, AND THE COURT MAY ASSESS AN ADDITIONAL FINE AND/OR COSTS.
ADDITIONAL RULES:
- This is an 8-HOUR course and full completion usually takes 24 hours plus time for you to MAIL or hand deliver the certificate to the court AND pay court costs in full. Do not procrastinate!
- If you have a commercial license or if you have taken a driver improvement course or state equivalent for a traffic ticket within the last 3 years, you are not eligible for this opportunity.
- You shall select the reason code for COURT - NO POINTS AWARDED. The Court does not allow a “double benefit” when points are awarded and will reject your certificate of completion. Only a NO POINTS option will allow you to benefit from a reduction or dismissal with the Court.
- Faxes/Emails are not acceptable. Choose an in-person program that will mail the original certificate or an on-line program that disclaims the on-line certificate is the only “Official” proof of successful completion of an 8-hour online Virginia Driver’s Manual Course directly through the DMV website.
Approved Virginia Driver Improvement Programs:
In Person: Any 8 Hour Driver Improvement Program approved by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles. For details call the Virginia DMV toll free number (877)885-5790.
Internet: Online courses are acceptable provided it is certified through the DMV and produces proof that the electronic certificate is the “Official” proof of successful 8-hour course completion. For a list of approved 8-hour programs on-line go to https://www.dmv.virginia.gov/drivers/#pcbased.asp . Registration costs for on-line clinics vary, so select the course that works best for you and make sure the certificate is proper for court approval.

Where do I file my Military Discharge DD-214?
The DD-214 is filed in the Virginia Beach Circuit Court Clerk's Office if you reside in . If you are not a resident of Virginia Beach, the DD-214 is filed in the city/county wherein you reside.
What should I bring with me to record the DD-214?
Bring the original or properly authenticated copy of either the discharge certificate or the report of separation from active duty (Department of Defense Document DD-214).
Is there a fee for filing the DD-214?
No, the Clerk's Office does not charge a filing fee and provides up to three copies of the DD-214 at no charge.

Public Advisory: Telephone Scam Warning Regarding Virginia Courts
The Office of the Executive Secretary of the Supreme Court of Virginia, the administrative office of the courts, is advising the public to be on alert for a phone scam that fakes or spoofs the name and telephone number of a Virginia court on the recipient's voicemail and/or caller ID. Callers claim to be representatives of a Virginia court, inquiring about the location of individuals, or demanding monies or personal information such as social security numbers or credit card numbers. Unless you have contacted the court to make a payment and requested that someone return the call, court personnel will not initiate a call with you to collect payments. Please be advised that Virginia courts never request credit card information or personal identifiers, such as social security numbers, by telephone.
Credit card payments should only be made in a court clerk’s office or through secure online applications, such as the Virginia Judiciary Online Payment System or the General District Online Case Information System, which are available on Virginia’s Judicial System website.
Virginia courts do not call private citizens to threaten or demand money. The public is cautioned to never give out personal information to unknown callers. If you receive a call about a court matter and are uncertain about its legitimacy, use the general contact information for all courts, which can be found on Virginia's Judicial System Website, to contact the court directly.
If you have received one of these calls, it is recommended that you contact the Federal Trade Commission. If you are a victim of one of these calls, please contact your local law enforcement agency.
