Jefferson County
Jefferson County was established on June 11, 1792 from parts of Caswell County. It was named in honor of Thomas Jefferson, who was Secretary of State and member on the Continental Congress; principal author of the Declaration of Independence. He served as Governor of Virginia; Vice President and third President of the United States.

Its county seat, Dandridge, was settled in 1783.
